JGS WIN GRUDGE REMATCH AGAINST EHS WITH 3 POINT THRILLER!!
After playing Earlston at Earlston 3 weeks ago and being unlucky to lose by 3 points the boys were more than keen for a re-match. It didn't look good for JGS at first as only 5 boys turned up (Corey Duffy, Craig Smith, Harry Marsden, Peter Bowie and Craig Smith), so we would be without subs for the whole 4 (10 minute) quarters, compared to Earlston who had brought 12 players and a very thought out set of tactics.
This did not seem to bother the JGS boys who started very strong putting in some great offensive and defensive plays to
rattle Earlston with an early score. As the game progressed there was some great basketball played by both teams and the score line was kept close throughout.....there was some real determination from all the JGS the boys to show Earlston that we can match them with some sterling work done in defence by the ever dominant Peter Bowie at Centre and some hard work done up and down the court by the two forwards Stephen Smith and Craig Smith.
The JGS boys showed real composure even when they slipped behind by 4 points in the final quarter - they seemed to rally, led superbly by Captain Corey Duffy they found an extra tank of energy which spurred them into attack and it was brought back to a 2 point game with 1 minute to play (my nails were getting munched on at this point as i sat on the side line)
30 seconds left - UP STEPS HARRY MARSDEN - the earlston defence had tightened up so the ball came back out to harry at the top of the D - he lined himself up (I crossed my fingers) and HE LET IT RAIN.......... 3 points!!!
last 10 seconds........whistle blows!!!
Great win for the JGS boys who have really worked hard this year to improve and develop their basketball skills and they proved themselves
against a very strong basketball school!!
So a big well done to the FANTASTIC 5 and if you see Harry just mention 3 points to him - never seen his smile so big!!
